Sometimes it’s pretty hard to find inspiration to write, particularly when you’re making a full time job out of blogging and want to create new content on a regular basis. So what do you do? One technique for new content is to comment on recent news items.
There are various benefits to doing this. For one, if it’s a popular topic then you can use your new article to target new juicy search traffic that you might not otherwise be receiving. If your blog is listed in Google blog search or Google news (which it should be) then you’re instantly targeting a newly create traffic niche – searchers looking for more information on this topic.
And then there’s social media. Think about the kind of links that you and your friends share on Facebook. Is this news item of the same type? Do your friends like humourous articles or serious ones? Why not use that focus for your article and let your friends help you out by sharing your content?
Key points to remember when writing your article;
- If it’s a popular subject area, then chances are you can’t write a comprehensive article on the subject. Pick an angle and run with it.
- Share the link love and reference some other quality sources. A couple of reasons for this – it makes your article better and linking to other blogs helps promote your own to their owners – they may even link back.
- Include the subject area in the title of your article – you want it to be picked up for news searches.
- Don’t spend forever doing it! The nature of sudden fads is that they are soon gone, so sometimes a quick article is better than a comprehensive article at a later date (you can always supplment your initial content at a later date).
1 page a day is a great rule of thumb for blogging success but it can be tough to source ideas for content, particularly within niche subject areas. Using current news items as the subject areas of some of your articles is a great way to help pick up the slack during slow times.
