Changing your boring Blogger Template
Let’s be honest, most of the default Blogger Templates are horrible, and its got to the point now where you visit a new Blogspot blog and you think ‘oh not this template again’ so, over the past week I have been playing around with blogger on my travel photo blog to see what I can learn from it – so I can help all my readers.
Follow these simple instructions below:
- Click on the Template tab at the top of the page
- Click on the Edit HTML link
- Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on “Revert to classic design”
You will see then the HTML code in the box, so next you need to find a Blogger template design that you like, and I can recommend Geckoandfly which features some very nice blog designs, that might be familiar to Wordpress users.
- Choose a design you like from the site and click on the download link
- Download the template to your desktop
- Delete all of the code currently in the HTML box [Alt & A to highlight then click delete]
- Open up the text file and copy and paste the code to the Blogger HTML box
- Click save template changes
It’s simple as that.
To revert back to your old template, and use the customisation tool to add elements just click on the “customise design” link and then upgrade, choose your template, and your back to your old template without any problems.
If you have any problems upgrading your template just drop me an email for assistance.

It’s worth checking Blogger before changing to the classic style and changing your template. I’ve just realised you can’t add labels or posts from RSS feeds on the sidebar with the classic style.
You have to upgrade to the layout style for this functionality. Damn shame.
