Five things I’ve learnt about Blogging
I’ve been blogging for two years, primarily on my travel blog, and I’ve learnt a lot through reading other blogs and networking.
I thought I’share what I’ve learnt, and then I want you to write a blog post about what you have learnt from blogging, and then email me the link. I’ll then publish all of the blog posts on Blogged Out in 10 days time so that we can all learn together.
Patience
You have to have patience, because you’re not going to write a successful blog over night, and it’s going to take a lot of time and effort. It took me over 15 months before my travel blog hit 1,000 uniques a day, and compare this with Blogged Out which is lucky to get 30 uniques a day.
Uniqueness
I quickly realised that people aren’t interested in quotes from news sites, so I read news stories and then put it into my own words, and gave my opinion. By giving my opinion, people either agreed or disagreed with me and this led to more comments from readers – I also found an increase in people linking to my blog posts, because they wanted to give their own opinion.
People love images
When I first started blogging, none of my posts included an image to fit within the subject of the blog post, and I found when I added an image that it broke up the content and made it much more readable. Nowadays, if I see a blog post with just text, I get bored after a few sentences and loose interest.
Checking my facts
Before you start rambling on, check your facts before doing so. Not only can it make you look unprofessional, but it can get you in trouble, if it materialises that the facts are incorrect. Thankfully, I’ve only had one bad experience due to not checking the facts before ranting about a company, and I have to publicly apologise, so you’ve been warned
Controversial
Sometimes it pays to be a little controversial, because it can raise awareness of your blog, increase traffic, and the number of people linking to your blog. Not everyone is going to agree with your opinions on a given subject, but I have written posts which have generated a lot of discussion, especially if it’s a subject that is in the news.
So, get blogging, send me the link and I’ll publish all blog posts in ten days time.
