Reasons why I dislike Google’s Blogger

Reason’s why I dislike Google’s BloggerMy main reason for disliking Google’s Blogger is the fact that it’s being used to create tons of doorway pages to dodgy sites - it’s being used to help spammers promote these sites in the search engines, and here’s me thinking that Google introduced the “sandbox” to stop spammers from making revenue.

Google’s Blogger, started the introduction of ‘Made for Adsense’ sites, where individuals would create a few blogs, slap some Adsense on the blog, and then earn an income from Google, and swamp the internet with crap blogs.

It also introduced the opportunity for individuals to create a blog and then steal content from RSS feeds of bloggers who have worked hard to write unique content. Add that the themes are dull and boring, it lacks the features, and your content is in the control of Google -not you.

You may be right. I never was part of the blogosphere until Jan 2007 when I learned that I could start a blog for free using Google’s blogger. I imagine if I had been introduced to some other complimentary service I would be using it now. I’ve only been blogging for a few months … so I haven’t determined what I plan to do next. Blogger meets my needs. I haven’t had any issues with spammers (yet).

Anyhow, I imagine over time I will invest more time in figuring out what my post-blogger platform will become. Any tips you can share would be appreciated!

I also started with Blogger and, as with most things, there are pros and cons. I started a second blog using WordPress (yes, I’m still cheap and only willing to go freebie until I figured out what my needs are exactly). WordPress has better templates and the ability to add more pages to your site, a feature which Blogger lacks. I have not yet found a way to access the HTML code (with the exception of in simple posts) for the site template in WordPress, however. It gives me the option to change the CSS for a fee. I have added a few features to Blogger this way, such as web analytics. The WordPress analytics leave something to be desired.

I’m sure most of my woes could be solved by spending money on some software, so it’s not fair to complain. Just thought I’d offer a few pros and cons of the freeware.

Villager- if you’d like to see the difference between the two sites:

    Wordpress – http://sherrileigh.wordpress.com

I think that blogger does serve a purpose in some instances. I’ve suggested to some clients who aren’t sure about whether or not they should be blogging, to start out with blogger. The best thing about blogger is that you can be blogging in minutes. Once they’ve tried it and they are serious, then I’ll set up wordpress for them and make the site a bit more sophisticated.

I agree with you that blogger is used by spammers and I’m surprised the Google isn’t doing anything about that. When I find a blogger site that is objectionable, I hit the flag blog button, but I’m not sure how effective that is.

  4. yes correct, tats why I switched to wordpress hosted on a paid hosting and domain name. they don’t even have basic feature like download of database.
