As you will have seen on the blog, I am trialling Kontera In-text advertising. The implementation was simple, and all I had to do was copy a snippet of JavaScript code into the index page of the blog template and that’s it.
I have been assigned an account manager which I thought was good, it made me feel that they want you to earn revenue, and you have someone on hand to answer any questions that you may have, which I thought was a nice touch.
About the ads, I’m not impressed, it doesn’t make the blog look that attractive, and rather than the double line under the text, I’d prefer if they looked more like a normal link on the blog. I’m not convinced I will earn much on this type of revenue source, but I am going to give it a trial for a month, and I’ll report back.

I’ve always wanted to try this out, thanks so much for doing a trial and reporting to us Darren, will help me make up my mind. I actually like the look of the little box that pops up, very stylish and modern.
No problem Kalina
I like the look of the box, but not so of the double lined links, but if it helps increase revenue I’ll be happy!
Yeah, I don’t care for that double line either, that should be a choice, not forced.
I’ve been using Kontera for quite a while now, for me the CPC is comparable to Adsense but the CTR is lower. I’m not a fan of the double underlines but do think they need top be differentiated some how other wise you’d get a load of accidental clicks (good in the short term but not so in the long term).
As I reckon they would put off tech savvy regular readers I now only display on my posts and pages over a week old. They bring in something like $500 a month so it’s a nice revenue addition without a lot of work
I use Amazon Associates, AdSense, Text-Link-Ads, and a little bit of PayPerPost and make a little over a grand a month, but my traffic isn’t that hight… and my blog is pretty highly-monetized. Have you checked out PostieCon? Seems like it would be the kind of conference that would really appeal to you guys. Its all about trying to see how best to drive revenue, drive readership, drive traffic, and make some dosh. Also, a great place to promote is on Blogger’s Choice Awards, especially if you win. That said, most of my revenue and traffic comes from search, anyway. I don’t have much of a readership.
I just put Kontera ads on some of the pages in my travel website today. I generally have quite a lot of links in my destination guides, so that readers can find out more about specific attractions. Therefore I think it’s probably a good idea to have to double underline the Kontera links to distinguish between information links and ad links. Some contextual problems but I would expect that in the first few days I will wait and see how much revenue it generates. If it goes well I may try integrating it into my blog.
I am having a mixed feeling about Kontera as soon as i started running Kontera, Adsense started doing smart pricing but i do not know if it is related.
