Be Controversial and Increase Traffic to your Blog

Be Controversial and Increase Traffic to your BlogSometimes being controversial can help increase traffic to your blog. I don’t mean lieing or being derogatory to a company or individual, but giving your opinion on a controversial subject can have a positive impact on your blog.

I am sure no matter which niche you blog in, be it entertainment, technology etc. there will be a news story that you can blog about, and give it a twist by including your opinion on the news story. When this has happened on my travel blog, I have seen an increase in visitors and comments on the blog post.

It’s very easy to quote a news article, but making it more interesting to the reader is what will make the difference. I am told that I don’t rant enough, and I am not controversial enough, which is probably right, but when I am you notice the difference on the blog.

    Darren,

I fully agree with your post, but sometimes you have to target a particular individual or company if they are the ones who are the cause of the subject you want to blog about.

Sometimes, they will take offence at the smallest things. Last week, Flybe sent an email round about suspending their affiliate programme. They are already about the tightest payers in the game as it is, but I went straight out said what I thought.

Looks like the mention of budgets got them worried. They should have just let it go, but now we all have to ask what they have to hide?

Now what was that you said about my site layout? The gloves will REALLY have to be off now.

  2. James, I think you posted this in the wrong blog ;) haha

Unfortunately, its the era that we are in, airlines like Flybe won’t be the first to reduce affiliate percentages for profits.

Now your sitelayout, its fine but its all bit too blue for my likening ;)

  3. to add..

I blogged about a high profile property company who were shitting on people from high who bought property abroad with them, and I wrote a blog post about it, and they were over 180 comments from people who agreed.

This company wrote to my host, who took the site down, even though I had asked them to send the legal letters to me and I would deal with it myself

If you have the money to fight the big boys then thats fine but they can get pissy and ask you to remove the content.

  5. Yup i agree with Darren, having your own controversial postings can make a big difference and definitely will help to attract more readers. Another point i would like to add is that if bloggers can provide food for thought relating to their blog so that would be a key factor of getting more traffic.
