Promote your Business with a Blog
You don’t have to create a blog just to write about your hobbies and interests, if you work for or run a business, a blog can be a great marketing tool to promote your business, inform your clients or visitors of the latest news in your industry or help build your business brand.
They are very good examples of this within the travel industry, but this could apply to every industry that you might work within. In general companies have been slow to realise the potential of a blog, but that is changing, and I’d like to demonstrate some of the companies that are doing this well.
Active Hotels have recently launched their own blog, and it’s primarily been used to promote hotels, and inspire people to book hotels through the Active hotels website. What I like about this blog is that it feels personal and not commercial and includes off-topic subjects.
Select World Travel, are an independent travel agency in England, and have really got the hang of blogging by promoting destinations, and travel operators within their blog. Lee Harrison, the editor of the travel blog has received many bookings from visitors to the blog, having found it on the search engines.
Travolution is a new company from the Travel Weekly Group, aimed at the online travel market and I love that they are unique and have used the blog to report from various travel conferences and exhibitions, so that you can keep up with what’s going on even though you can’t be there.
These different techniques can be used in nearly every industry, be it motor, broadcasting or healthcare, so don’t be afraid to create a blog for your business, and reach out to your potential customers, clients or visitors.

True. I’m making an online browser game together with a couple of friends and I started a blog a few days ago with the thought in mind to start gathering people that might be interested in playing the game when it shows up. I’m hoping it will pay up.
I started a blog for my travel business, Eruope a la Carte, last October. I try to keep the posts related to travel in Europe. It sounds simple to say set up a blog but it does take quite a bit of time and effort. In a business blog you want to promote your business by relating information that will be useful and relevant to readers of the blog. In my case my aim is that when readers think of a holday to Europe, that my business springs to mind.
Travolution isn’t so new anymore. We’re almost 18 months old. Just a small point…
Rule #1 of Blogging: be accurate.
Very true on being accurate.
p.s. you need to update your ‘about us’ page if your not new anymore because thats where I got that from
it currently says:
“Commentary and analysis on the online travel industry. Part of the Travolution media brand in the UK.”
where are you seeing otherwise? thanks for pointing it out……
Kevin,
I am looking at this page
http://www.travolution.co.uk/StaticPages/AboutUs.html
“Travolution is a new venture from the Travel Weekly Group”
My blog gets uploaded automatically on to the Lodge site and as such creates interest. It’s a great way to tell people about our Guests, Staff and happenings! Take a loook!
Richard, I tried to click on to your link and it wasn’t working.
Sorry I put the wrong URL! This one is right!
I have just begun my own blog in an effort to increase my name-recognition since I am writing a book on travel. I am very interested in joining the travel-blogging community although I know very little at this time.
Gary
Gary, when I clicked on your link, it said page not available. Let me know what your book is about and perhaps you could do a guest post on my blog for some publicity.
If you want to blog successfully you have to pretty focused and dedicated, it’s not a easy way of promotion but it does pay off.
