Becoming a successful blogger
What a successful blog to you might not be to me – to me a successful blog is one that is receiving a few thousand visitors a day, gets tons of comments and is featured on various media, including newspaper, radio and the internet.
To some people a successful blog might be one that is earning them a good monthly salary, but being successful is what the majority of bloggers are aiming for. These are pretty basic tips, but a lot of us [me included] sometimes forget about the basics.
Choose your Niche
Before you write your 1st blog post write down what the theme of your blog is going to be. The more successful blogs are the ones that have a niche; so rather than blogging about technology, pick a niche within technology, i.e. gadgets and concentrate on that.
Blog Networking
Find a number of blogs that fit within your blog theme, that you enjoy reading and regular comment on their blog. Don’t spam it, leave comments that are going to help the reader, and you might find a few new readers from this.
Enjoyment is the route to Success.
It really is – what could be worse than blogging about a subject that you dislike or have no interest in – I chose travel because I love travelling, and felt that it was an area that was lacking quality blogs, and because I enjoy blogging about travel I blog daily.
Learn about how the Search Engines work
You’ll find that a lot of your readership will come from the search engines – they will be searching for something on say Google and find your blog. So, its useful to know a few basics about how the search engines work.
Links are what gets your blog featured higher in the search engines, so as long as you are writing interesting and unique content people will link to it. Have a think what keywords people would use to search for your blog or blog post and use these keywords within your content – but don’t keyword spam!
They are tons of resources on the internet including blogs, forums and books, and I can recommend the SEO book which I have bought myself has been the best resource that I have bought.
