Take Steps to Protect your Content
What pisses me off more than anything about blogging are people who create splogs [spam blogs] and use your RSS feed to steal your content and then earn an income from it by adding in Google Adsense wrapped around the content.
I’ve had this problem, and they are a few solutions for Wordpress blog users [sorry, the rest of you] in the form of plugins. Thanks to Plagiarism Today I found out about the Antileech and Digital Fingerprint Wordpress plugins.
The Antileech plugin identity’s suspicious agents or scrapers so that you can then block and direct them to your own dummy content. The Digital Fingerprint highlights splogs that are using your content and then you can take steps to remove this.
Plagiarism Today also highlight how splogs cheat the Technorati system – I’m so glad that I found out about this blog because it has tons of content about how to protect your content and issues with copyright online.

Hi Darren
I am not completely with you as content scraping has a good side as well. See my post of today and moreover creating a community is about generating leads to each other. Whether it is outright scraping or copying ideas and rewriting them…hm only marginally different (apart from the time and hard work involved)
Regards
gje
I disagree with you in that scraping in the majority is done by people who want to earn a quick £/€/$ without doing any work whatsoever.
If you are taking quotes or excertps from a blog and adding your own content then that is not scraping in my opinion.
On TR I had one individual take every single blog article I wrote and used it on his blog added Google Adsense within the posts.
That’s stopped now and legal action is in the process of been processed for compensation.
In my opinion if you have to copy entirely someones work then you shouldn’t be blogging because bloging is time consuming and hard work.
I believe we share the same views than.
I fiddled around with Google Reader and added a widget on HH
I think it is workable.
Any similar ideas/suggestions?
Well
After using it a few days, I think Google reader cum widget work (at least for my purpose for the time being).
I noticed You skipped a remark I made on the Giraffes. Prolly because it was off topic there.
So same question here:
What are Splogs and wot not.
Without giving them the honour of a link I would like to ask your opinion about:
tourist lodging aggregator?
Splog or aggregator?
Guido
Hi Guido,
Yes, I have skipped a few comments from several people of late because they are off-topic.
Tourist lodging aggregator is a tough one because they don’t appear to add adsense and other ads to earn an income from your hard work.
I’d say it’s a splog though.
Here’s wikipedia’s thought on spam blogs
