I’ve come out of Christmas Holiday retirement early, because I felt I had to rant about these pay per post sites who treat bloggers like sweatshop workers and pay people peanuts for blogging.
Come on ladies and gentlemen, your worth more than $10 for writing a blog entry, which in my opinion 1) spoils your blog and 2) lowers your reputation as a professional blogger.
Forget these pay per post blog sites, and concentrate on writing unique, interesting content, and you could be earning a good income from blogging. You write unique content, people link to you, your reputation and Google Page rank increases, and companies within your niche, then want to advertise on your blog and participate in your blog.
Selling your blog off like a $2 pair of fake Nike trainers will not make your blog successful.

You’re looking at $10 like an american would, or any westerner anyway. $10 might be the equivalent of 1 hour of work for you but in some countries its what you earn in 1 or 2 days of hard work. The medium wage in my country is around $350/month .. and the minimum wage around $120/month. You would see then that even as $10 doesn’t meen much here either, it would still buy me 16 cups of coffee or 6 packs of cigarettes or enough petrol to make around 100km with my car… you get the picture
.
.
Its easy to rant about pay per post and how evil they are, but in the end its just another method to make money on the internet, the reason you have travel blogs I imagine
True, it can’t help you much when it comes to your blog’s success having payed posts, but I can’t honestly say that it would hurt either. I for one wouldn’t stop reading a blog just because they have payed posts or affiliate links on it. As long as the quality of the content is good, I don’t care about advertisements (pop-ups are a different story though .. i’ll unsuscribe in a second if they’re present).
Alsuran, I agree, and you’ve made some good points BUT, why should you sell yourself short, just because $10 buys more where you live than in the US or Europe?
No offense intended, but your the type of person that these sites take advantage of, in my opinion. You have a nice looking blog, unfortunately, I can’t read it because of the language, so how about adding a link to translate the page into English.
I am sure that there is a plugin where you can translate a blog.
Well Darren, as I said before … $10 is selling yourself short for you. For me is half of hour of work payed with an ammount of money that many in my country earn in 2 days or about 16-20 hours of work. All you need to do in return is to give your opinion. As long as I give my real opinion about the product I don’t feel like I’m selling my blog out. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t use pay per post and I don’t plan to, but I completely understand those that use it. You can’t expect the entire blogging comunity to have the same standards when it comes to the value of their work. Depending on the country they live in, each will have its own point where its worth making that step. For me $10 would be enough to make a pay per post. For you it might be $100. Then again, if you have a blog read by thousands of people you will probably not use pay per post or ask for couple thousands dollars no matter from what country you are. I see it as an extra way to make money for those that have small blogs with not that many readers. You see it as taking advantage, I see it as making some easy money. I got $12 right now in my pocket to have fun with my friends on Christmas. Would an extra $10 help me have more fun or buy some presents? Yeah .. it would. Would my brother deserve a better present then I’ll get him with the money I have? Yeah .. definetely. As I said … you can’t be angry because $10 have more value for me or other people then it has for you
. Maybe you would do a pay per post for $100 … and a guy with a Ferrari would look at you and ask .. “Why are you selling yourself short?”
Damn, I think this is the longest comment I’ve ever made. About my site, its in romanian and there is no plugin to translate from romanian to english
. My plans with it is to help other romanians discover the ways you can make money on the internet. For that reason I don’t plan on ever using advertising on that blog. It’s not all about the money .. but it helps
.
Merry Christmas Darren!
I write sponsored blogs on a regular basis. I make sure they are clearly marked as Sponsored Posts, and I would doubt anyone ever really reads them. I dont really see much of an issue with it, they dont take long to write. I can see that it could be a problem if one didnt mention the fact that it was a sponsored post. I guess people make the choice whether to take the money or not, so I dont really see anyone being taken advantage of.
Alsuran, excellent points, and I love your comments, always insightful. Thanks for dropping by and a Merry Christmas to you and the family!
I’m glad I got a bit of a debate going, it’s not meant to be offensive to anyone, I just wanted to say really that you shouldn’t have to sell yourself short.
