UK lagging behind in the Blogosphere

The Blogging bug doesn’t seem to have reached the United Kingdom quite yet. On a recent visit to the World Travel Market in London, as a member of the press (well a blogger) I asked the question to various travel professionals – do you know what a blog is? 95% of the people I asked said no.

This really surprised me, because companies aren’t realising how powerful a blog could be for their business as a marketing tool. Blogs help raise brand awareness, improve your website’s ranking in the search engines and give the consumer an opportunity to make their opinion known.

  1. I started a blog for my travel business, Europe a la Carte in October 2006. I was prompted to start the blog by an email request from a student writing a disseration on travel company blogs. Although I had vaguely heard of blogs it was more in the context of personal travel diaries than as a business marketing tool. I read all the wonderful things that I blog can do for your business. Well it is early days for me but I am getting more visitors to my site but it is hard work keeping up the blog.

  2. Two months on and the blog is beginning to pay dividends. My Google page ranking has moved up to 5, website visitors have more than tripled and the number of bookings has increased. All great but I do spend a lot of time researching writing posts for the blog, visiting other related blogs and writing comments. However for a small business it is a really cost effective method of buidling up your business.

  3. I agree with the original comment that the UK is behing when it comes to blogging. I have set up quite a few and when it comes to communicating with other bloggers its increasingly difficult to find people from the UK. I am using it to advertise the company im working for. This causes problems with prices as the content I offer helps only people from the UK. I have used squidoo.com which seems to be really big in America and its making people alot of money in America but its hard for me to advertise it as hardly any british people use it.
