LiveJournal Blog software review

Hmm, I’ve heard good things about Live Journal, so I signed up with a free account to see what all the fuss was about, and to be honest, to say I am disappointed is an understatement.

Maybe it’s because I am so used to working with Wordpress, but I found myself lost in a maze of an admin area, and the themes on offer were very limited.

So your thinking why is this guy complaining – this is FREE! Yes, it is, but then so is Blogger and Wordpress, and there was one feature that put me off using Live Journal instantly, and that’s the Google Adsense ads that you are forced to have on your blog.

I know Blogger has that dodgy looking bar at the top of your blog, but you can blend it in within the background, and to be honest, it doesn’t look too bad, but the Live Journal bar at the top is horrible and bulky – I’m not sure if you can turn it off, but I couldn’t find any settings to change the colour.

All in all I was disappointed with Live Journal, and to be honest, I can’t even think of anything complimentary to say about it, which is a shame – maybe the paid version is much better, I for one though won’t be paying to find out.

What’s your feedback on Live Journal – I’d love to hear your comments.

  1. I’ll be having blog reviewers on blogger talk, so you will have to submit this review. Have you submitted the review to alexa?

  2. There’s a lot of cool stuff you can do with LJ, you just have to take a bit of time to figure out your way around. You can hide/change the color of the top bar, and you by all means don’t have to have the adsense ads if you don’t want (I don’t on any of my LJ’s). I agree some of the basic themes are a bit limiting, but there’s more of them with the paid account areas. Still though, I’m not sure it has that much extra above wordpress going for it, overall.
