Technorati Guide for New Bloggers

If you haven’t realised already, you’ll soon will realise, that Technorati can be a great way to promote your blog and also gauge how well your blog is doing compared to other bloggers. The first thing you need to do is to claim your blog so follow the simple steps below:

Technorati Guide for New Bloggers

1. Register an account at www.technorati.com/signup/
2. You’ll need to ‘Claim a Blog’ so enter in your Blog URL
3. Click on begin Claim
4. For Wordpress users I recommend the ‘Quick Claim’
5. For all other Blog platforms I recommend the ‘Post Claim’ option
6. Wordpress Users: Enter your username and password
7. Other Users: Post on your blog and copy the code into the blog entry

With option 7. you can actually delete the post later – the post will send the Technorati spiders to your blog and it’ll take all of the information it needs to start to submit your RSS feed to the Technorati search.

Once you have claimed your blog, I would then recommend updating your profile and adding a small image as this seems to get your blog noticed more. I have to admit that I haven’t claimed a blog or used Technorati on a blog other than Wordpress, so if your having problems feel free to contact me and I’ll try and help you out.

Whenever you write a new blog entry on Wordpress the software “pings” Technorati, to tell it that a new post has been added, and this appears very quickly in the search system.

For other blogs, I’m not sure if this automatic “pinging” happens, so whenever you make a new post visit Pingomatic.com and enter your RSS details to “ping” Technorati.

More information on RSS and Pinging to come soon!

  1. Darren, I have been using the Technorati tags on my posts for a while using Typepad as my blogging platform. The tags appear to work some of the time and not on other occasions. By that I mean if I go back to a Technorati tag in an early post that was made about 4 weeks ago often the tag will take me to the relevant page on Technorati but my blog post will not be included in the list, yet there will be other blogs mentioned that posted just hours ago. Yet on some other posts of mine the Tag takes me to the relevant Technorati page and my blog post is listed. I have also tested the tags on some other blogs and every tag seems to work. Very confusing. I have written to Technorati tech help about a week ago but have had no reply.

  2. Top suggestion. Thanks for the idea.
